On 27 July 2017, Amazon officially announced the launch of Prime Now in Singapore, which offers free ultra-fast two-hour delivery of tens of thousands of items through the Prime Now mobile app. Products ranging from groceries to electronics and sporting goods are stocked and are ready to be ordered and delivered daily between 10am to 10pm. Minister Mr S Iswaran graced the official launch event and gave a speech on digital transformation and how Singapore is well-positioned to capture opportunities from digitalisation.

Prime Now in Singapore marks Amazon's first foray into Southeast Asia and it runs on a new operating model which leverages data and technology such as artificial intelligence to achieve greater resource efficiency and near-real time delivery of goods. Its 100,000 square feet fulfilment centre in the Jurong Industrial area is also the tech and e-commerce giant's largest Prime Now only fulfilment centre in the world.

Over the next three years, Amazon will create hundreds of good jobs across managerial, technical and operations roles, and they will play a key role in training and equipping our local ecosystem and workforce with cross-disciplinary digital capabilities across technical, entrepreneurial and creative skillsets.
